Exploitation of Vulnerable Individuals
Exploitation of Vulnerable Individuals

County lines drug operations frequently exploit young and vulnerable individuals. Dealers often target children and adults with mental health or addiction issues. They coerce them into acting as drug couriers. They also have them handle money to avoid law enforcement detection.

In some cases, dealers take over the property of a vulnerable individual. They use it as a base for their criminal activities. This practice, known as “cuckooing,” allows them to function under the radar.

The exploited individuals often endure physical, mental, and sexual abuse. They may be trafficked far from home as part of the drug network’s activities.

Much like in cases of child sexual exploitation, affected children often do not recognize themselves as victims. They do not realize they have been groomed into criminal activities. It is crucial for everyone to understand county lines and speak out if they have any concerns.
